The name Batroun derives from the Arabic al-Batroun, itself from the Greek, Botrys (also spelled Bothrys), which was later Latinized to Botrus.

Batroun is a time capsule of the Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine. You can trace it all the way back to pre-historic times, loads of tools have been discovered in the Nahr el Jaouz river. A real fairy-tale castle can be found in Mseilha, a medieval fort built by Emir Fakhreddine II in the 17th century. The citadel and surrounding landscape was recently renovated to make it accessible to tourists. The natural sea wall near to the old harbor, reinforced by the Phoenicians, is the current site of the annual Batroun Festival. You can wonder around the old souks, a charming cobble-stoned market. Have a cold glass of Batroun’s famous lemonade at Hilmi's by the ruins of Makaad el Mir. End your day by visiting one of Batroon's famous microbrewery Colonel located by the sea, amazing food, its pet friendly and has amazing signature beer. We spent 2 magical days in Batroun, we stayed at the Batrou Country Village a beautiful place with loads of activity, an indoor and outdoor pool, restaurant, horseback riding, saunas, basket ball court and football field.
